By DEZRI ROCHIN/Montana State News

The Student Assistance Foundation (SAF) of Helena is setting out to raise $1,000 in scholarship money per county in Montana. That amounts to $56,000 statewide.

The foundation is holding its second annual Griz-Bobcat Football Weekend Raffle. All proceeds from the event will benefit Montana scholarship and grant programs.

SAF will be raffling off two tickets as well as pre game activities for the Griz-Bobcat football game in Missoula on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012.

Also among the prizes are a custom made Kit Johnson fly rod, a $600 value, $500 cash courtesy of Placer Motors in Helena and a two-night stay at the Wingate by Wyndham in Missoula.

Tickets go on sale this weekend and will be available at events and retail stores statewide. The tickets are sold individually for $5, or purchase five tickets for $20. They will be sold through Oct. 15, and the winners will be drawn and notified on Nov 1.

“The $1,000 scholarships are given to second year college students as more of a retention incentive to help them stay in college.” says Pat Schlauch. He says that there will also be funds raised that will go toward “access grants for need based financial aid.”

SAF provides outreach aid to Montana college students who need additional assistance to achieve a higher education, including staffing eight outreach offices at college campuses across the state.

Wendy Brenden, marketing supervisor for SAF said, “This is a great way for anyone to help local students achieve their dreams of gaining a postsecondary education.”
