Montana State University’s ski team set a new school record for overall points earned at this year’s NCAA National Ski Championships held at the Bohart Ranch on Bridger Bowl.

The home team earned 502.5 points earlier this month. That placed them seventh overall, and this beat MSU’s previous record of 410 set in 2010. The University of Vermont earned the top honors at this year’s event with an overall score of 832 points.

MSU also set a new school record in the number of contestants with 11 students participating. Stephanie Irwin led the Bobcat team in the women’s slalom race with a 14th place finish.

The familiar ground certainly helped this year’s team. MSU Director of Skiing Dan Brelsford said, “It was great to be the host team of the NCAA Championships and have these races here at home.”

The MSU skiers who participated in the event were: David Norris, Tyler Reinking, Michael Schallinger, Ase Carlson, Casey Kutz, and Jessica Yeaton, Marissa Riopelle, Kelly McBroom, Stephanie Irwin, Michael Radford and Geoff Irwin.

The championship kicked off with a banquet hosted by MSU for the student-athletes and concluded with an awards ceremony on Mar. 10 where Vermont claimed their victory.
